The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune, a jewel of the Burgundian wine heritage
The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune, a true emblem of winemaking excellence in Burgundy, covers 60 hectares, spread over more than 120 plots, including 50 hectares of Pinot Noir and 10 hectares of Chardonnay. A source of pride for the Climats de Bourgogne, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2015, the domain stands out for the exceptional quality of its terroirs, with 85% of the vines classified as Premier Cru or Grand Cru.
Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the birthplace of great Burgundy wines, the domain includes around 20 hectares in the Beaune appellation, overlooking vineyards that extend into neighboring villages, while also venturing onto other slopes. The vineyard reflects the diversity and richness of Burgundian terroirs, with a notable presence on prestigious plots such as Chablis 1er Cru and some Grand Crus in the Côte de Nuits.
Since 2015, under the leadership of Ludivine Griveau, the domain has accelerated its transition to sustainable viticulture. Already committed to a chemical-free policy, the domain has taken a further step by obtaining its organic certification in 2024, thus strengthening its environmental commitment. The respectful management of the vines and the terroir is in perfect harmony with the values of a hospital where care and attention to others are at the heart of concerns.
Every third Sunday of November, the wines of the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune are offered at the famous auction, a globally recognized event. The carefully crafted vintages are then entrusted to merchant-winemakers like Albert Bichot, who continue the art of aging great wines while respecting the domain's organic practices.
The Domaine des Hospices de Beaune thus embodies the very essence of Burgundy: a land of diversity, authenticity, and excellence. Its wines, from exceptional terroirs, offer enthusiasts a rich and varied aromatic palette, while perpetuating a tradition of generosity and commitment.
