Champagne Drappier

Champagne Drappier

Anchored in Urville since 1808, Maison Drappier is much more than a Champagne estate: it is a living heritage, passed down through eight generations, with roots dating back to the Cistercian cellars built by Saint Bernard in 1152. In the lands of Aube where Pinot Noir "runs in the veins," Michel Drappier, now supported by his children Charline, Hugo, and Antoine, continues a champagne philosophy based on authenticity, precision, and respect for nature.

The vineyard, which covers over 110 hectares mostly around Urville, is cultivated without herbicides, in certified organic agriculture for a significant part of the estate. The Pinot Noir reigns supreme at 70%, complemented by Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, and, remarkably, ancient and almost forgotten grape varieties: Fromenteau, Arbane, Petit Meslier, and Blanc Vrai, carefully preserved as living archives of the Champagne heritage.

In the cellar, the Drappier philosophy is expressed with exemplary clarity: minimal intervention, zero filtration, no animal products, and above all, the use of sulfites reduced to the strict minimum – between 30 and 45 mg per liter, less than a quarter of the authorized content. The culmination of this approach initiated in the 1980s is the Brut Nature Sans Soufre cuvée, pioneering and iconic. The blends, led each year by Michel and Hugo Drappier with oenologist François-Xavier Auger, aim not for simple homogeneity but for the maximum expression of each cuvée in all its uniqueness.

Aging in local oak vats, in barrels from the Templar forest, or in the exceptional 3,342-liter egg-shaped vat Ovum, gives Drappier champagnes a rare complexity and depth. The dosage liqueurs, aged for over fifteen years in demijohns, contribute to the pursuit of absolute aromatic purity.

As the first Champagne house certified Carbon Neutral since 2016, Drappier embodies a comprehensive and coherent environmental commitment: photovoltaic panels, electric fleet, 15% lighter bottle, horse plowing by Antoine, permaculture, and biodiversity cultivated along the vineyards. A vision as modern as it is deeply rooted, which today makes Champagne Drappier one of the essential references in terroir champagne, sincere, natural, and resolutely visionary.
