Lapierre is a name inseparable from winemaking in Beaujolais, and Morgon in particular. The family's story truly unfolds in the late 1970s, when Marcel Lapierre, a disciple of Jules Chauvet, turned towards organic farming to produce natural wines. Even though the term had no meaning or market value at the time, a group of winemakers chose the natural path to better combat the standardized practices of that era, which heavily relied on artificial yeast, sulfites, and chaptalization. The Chanudet, Foillard, Metras, Descombes, and Lapierre families paved the way for what is now known as natural wines. Marcel's children, Camille and Mathieu, continue the Lapierre legacy. The wines are vinified in almost the same way, meaning little to no added sulfites, indigenous yeasts, no chaptalization, and carbonic macerations to preserve the Domaine's Morgon identity: wines that are flavorful, silky, with delicate tannins and devilishly drinkable, showcasing flavors of cherry pit, raspberry, and gentle spices.
