The Château La Baronne, located in the preserved region of Corbières, in Occitanie, is a family estate nestled on the foothills of the Montagne d'Alaric. Its exceptional terroir is marked by the four major geological eras and offers a unique diversity. The clay-limestone mass of the Montagne d'Alaric houses underground water reserves that play a vital role in the dry and windy Mediterranean climate of the region.
The vineyards of the estate, planted between 100 and 200 meters above sea level, thrive on a wide variety of terraces, valleys, and gravelly hillsides. The soils, mainly limestone, clay, and sandy, come from tertiary and quaternary formations. The grape varieties cultivated at Château La Baronne, such as Carignan, Grenache noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Grenache blanc, Grenache gris, Roussanne, and Vermentino, reflect the identity of the Corbières.
The history of La Baronne dates back five generations of the Lignères family, passionate physician-winemakers. Founded in 1890 by Louis Lignères, the Lignères house achieved national success. André and Suzette Lignères, after studying medicine, were drawn to the La Baronne estate in the 1950s due to its unique location and exceptional terroirs. They began bottling La Baronne wines in the 1970s, with the support of their children Paul, Jean, and Geneviève.
Today, Jean and Anne represent the passion and commitment of the Lignères family, while the team at Château La Baronne contributes to creating wines of excellence. The manual harvests, with a loyal international team, are a highlight of each vintage.
