The Lafarge family is above all, with patriarch Michel first (who passed away in 2020), an illustrious and iconic domain in Volnay, in the Côtes de Beaune. A pioneer of biodynamics, Michel and then his son Frédéric have always worked for a viticulture respectful of the vine and its environment.
In 2014, Frédéric Lafarge and his wife Chantal decided with their daughter Clotilde to embark on the Beaujolais adventure, with the acquisition of very beautiful climates in Fleurie: the Lafarge-Vial estate was born. A long process of rehabilitation of these 4 hectares of vineyards begins, which are of course worked in biodynamics. The wines are, of course, vinified in the Burgundian style, but the approach in terms of harvest date and maceration is adapted to the Gamays. They are de-stemmed and aged for nearly a year after artisanal vertical pressing to better extract the aromatic components. The work in the vineyard is just as passionate and meticulous as in Volnay, the wines have, like their Burgundian brothers, a lot of soul and depth... and undoubtedly an admirable aging potential. Clos Vernay is a prized parcel of the estate, facing due south and with a soil composed of quartz and granite.
