The Krug Grande Cuvée 173rd Edition is more than just a champagne: it is the embodiment of a philosophy established in 1843 by Joseph Krug, who dreamed of offering each year the greatest expression of champagne possible, regardless of the whims of the climate. Composed around the 2017 harvests, this 173rd Edition is a blend of 150 wines from 13 different years, with the youngest dating back to 2017 and the oldest from the 2001 harvest — more than two decades of vinified memory in a single bottle. The reserve wines from the extensive Maison library represent 31% of the final blend, bringing the essential breadth and roundness to each Krug Grande Cuvée Edition. This Edition consists of 44% Pinot Noir, 34% Chardonnay, and 22% Meunier. Disgorged in January 2024 with a dosage of only 4.5 g/L, after about seven years of maturation in the cellar, it reveals all its complexity. The robe adorns itself with a beautiful golden color with fine and persistent bubbles. The nose is expressive, fragrant, and powerful, with toasted and brioche aromas, stone fruit, verbena, vanilla pastry cream, French toast, and rum baba. On the palate, this champagne is creamy, velvety, and generous. Nuances of juicy fruits, syrupy peaches, and ripe citrus give way to waxy, toasted notes and pine nuts, before a clear and precise finish on lemon. An exceptional champagne, to be enjoyed from today or to be kept until 2030 and beyond.
