Magnum red wine Corton Grand Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2023 Pierre Olivier Garcia
This magnum of Corton Grand Cru Les Maréchaudes 2023 by Pierre-Olivier Garcia is a newcomer in Pierre-Olivier Garcia's range, a talented young winemaker based in Nuits St Georges. On this Grand Cru terroir overlooking the village of Ladoix, Pierre-Olivier applies the same method as on his other red wines, namely an atypical technique called "berry by berry": it consists of harvesting and drastically sorting the grapes, by cutting the stem (the vegetative part of the cluster) with scissors to leave the pedicel (the stem in contact with the grape berry) intact.
A very time-consuming and labor-intensive practice, therefore rarely used by winemakers. Without compromise, Pierre-Olivier applies it to all his vintages, with 1/3 of the harvest (1/3 remaining is destemmed, the other third is whole cluster fermentation).
The grapes harvested in 2023 from this plot were in perfect sanitary condition. The wine looks very promising, on par with the best grand crus of Corton. The nose exudes peony, licorice, black cherry, and cinnamon. The palate is intense and robust, with well-present tannins, perfectly ripe. The aging potential is very significant, it should be aged for at least 5 years to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity.
Another great Corton by Pierre-Olivier Garcia!
