The Dom Pérignon P2 2008 is no ordinary champagne: it is the second life of an already legendary vintage. Born from a season split in two — a first half cold, gray, and humid, followed by a bright September with North/Northeast winds — the year 2008 created a wine of exceptional brilliance and creative tension. After its initial remarkable expression upon release as P1, the P2 cuvée, also known as Deuxième Plénitude, is the result of nearly fifteen additional years of elaboration, offering a maturity and aromatic complexity of a whole other dimension. The equal blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, from 300 hectares of vineyards owned by LVMH, makes it a champagne of rare coherence and depth. On the nose, hints of white flowers, citrus, and stone fruits lead to notes of crushed mint, anise, then spicy, woody, and toasted touches. The generous aromas of red fruits, verbena, and sour honey gradually give way to accents of buttered toast, flint, and a slight hint of iodine. On the palate, the structure is complete: a taut acidity inherited from the long cool season supports a very complete wine, both in its horizontal amplitude and vertical depth, with a phenolic texture concentrated by extended aging under cork. The finish is long, salivating, with remarkable precision. The 2008 vintage is already shaping up to be a future legend, and this P2 is its most accomplished expression to date.
