Enclosed by walls since the 18th century, the Clos de Thorey covers 3.07 hectares facing due south, just outside the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Its deep soils of brown clays mixed with limestone give the Pinot Noir a powerful yet elegant structure. Converted to certified biodynamics in 2001, the estate seeks purity of expression and controlled yields (18.9 hl/ha in 2021)

2021 vintage: refinement and tension

Aging: 16 months in oak barrels (20% new) from the forests of Cîteaux & Tronçais; gravity racking; no fining, light filtration

Dense ruby color with purple hues. Precise nose blending black cherry, blackberry, and violet, enhanced by subtle notes of vanilla, sweet spices, and undergrowth. Silky, fleshy palate with lively acidity and fine tannins; the long finish reveals a hint of tomato leaf and licorice, a signature of the vineyard

Serve at 16-18°C after 45 minutes of aeration. Perfect with jugged hare, roasted beef fillet, stuffed quail with morels, or mature cheeses (Époisses, Soumaintrain)
