The Glenmorangie The Nectar d'Or 16-Year-Old was born from a simple yet indulgent inspiration: the memory of Dr. Bill Lumsden, the Master Distiller of the House, entering a French bakery and being enchanted by the scents of brioche, honey, and candied fruits. This Highland single malt first matured for 14 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being further aged for two additional years in a remarkable combination of sweet white wine casks: Sauternes and Monbazillac from France, Moscatel from Spain, and Tokaji from Hungary. Each terroir brings its own signature: the French barrels offer aromas of orchard fruits and buttery pastries, the Moscatel barrels add sweet and syrupy flavors, while the Tokaji barrels elevate the whole with notes of hazelnuts and honey. The whisky has a bright and generous golden bronze appearance. On the nose, warm brioche, candied apricot, butter biscuit, vanilla, roasted almonds, and honey follow one another with remarkable indulgence and generosity. On the palate, the texture is both creamy and enveloping, balanced by a welcome hint of lemon zest. Rich flavors of custard, apricots, grapes, and roasted chestnuts are accompanied by a blend of gentle spices—nutmeg, star anise—before the oak underscores the finish with notes of shortcrust pastry, lemon, and honey. A uniquely pastry-character whisky, equally at home as a digestif or paired with a fruit dessert.
