White wine bottle Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru Les Pucelles 2023, Cellier aux Moines estate
Architectural jewel of Burgundy wine, Cellier aux Moines is one of the oldest wine estates in the region. Founded in 1130 by Cistercian monks in Givry, the Cellier and its vineyard enclosure are still preserved. During the revolution, the estate was requisitioned and sold to a family who kept it for two centuries, until the Pascal family acquired it in 2004. The Pascal family implemented an extensive restoration program for both the Cellier and the vineyard. A new winery was also established, equipped with high-level facilities to vinify wines with precision while preserving the authenticity of their terroir. Particularly the iconic vineyards: 5 hectares of the famous "clos" of Cellier aux Moines, a historic premier cru of Givry, as well as some prestigious plots in Puligny and Chassagne Montrachet. The estate covers 10 hectares, all cultivated in biodynamics. Another distinctive feature is the absence of wine pumping thanks to this gravity-fed winery on four levels. The motto serving the quality of the wines is "Simplex Natura" (Let nature do its work).
This Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru Les Pucelles 2023 from Cellier aux Moines comes from a legendary plot in Puligny, located a few dozen meters from the grand cru Montrachet. Here, we are in the realm of the most beautiful terroirs of the Côte de Beaune for Chardonnay. The Cellier aux Moines plot is situated in the heart of Les Pucelles, with vines planted in 1970. The wine is aged in barrels, 50% of which are new, for 20 months. The oak is perfectly integrated thanks to large 400-liter containers, giving a smooth texture to this cuvée. This 2023 is the result of a great sunny year, conducive to perfectly ripe grapes. The resulting wine is marked by remarkable brilliance and tension. A class that is expressed through generous citrus and mineral notes on the nose. The palate strikes a balance between power and finesse. A long finish with flinty notes concludes the tasting. Pure class!
